Along with the biological differences between the male and female sexes at birth, individuals are socially equipped with different roles in the process of socialization. These roles reconstruct themselves over and over through systems such as patriarchy. Gender roles taught in the patriarchal system are unconsciously internalized by individuals with the perception of hegemonic masculinity. Although the individual sees himself as a rational being in the society and does not accept this process, the family structure of the society he lives in, the social environment he or she belongs to, his status, socio-cultural level, religion, ethnicity and similar variables in the socialization process. Plays unconsciously internalized roles. These variables, which we assume to be effective in the formation of gender roles, affect the sample group. The perceptions created by these roles shape the future expectations of the university students, who are the sample group, and also constitute an important issue in the differentiation of these expectations in the disciplines they study. The reason for choosing the Faculty of Letters, Engineering and Fine Arts among male students living in Ankara for the research is to wonder if there is a differentiation between the faculties in the practices of individuals' cultural perceptions and gender roles. In this context, the view of male students in different faculties towards patriarchy and the pressure of hegemonic masculinity they feel on them constitute the subject of the research. The main purpose of this study is to reveal the perspective of male students living in Ankara on patriarchy and gender roles produced by the patriarchal system. At the same time, while examining how the hegemonic masculinity created by these gender roles is perceived, the social dynamics behind their reproduction will be investigated.

Doğumla birlikte bireyler, kadın-erkek cinsiyetinin biyolojik yönden farklı oluşlarının yanı sıra, sosyalizasyon süreci içinde toplumsal olarak farklı rollerle de donatılır. Bu roller, ataerkillik gibi sistemler ile tekrar tekrar kendini inşa eder. Ataerkil sistem içinde öğretilen toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri hegemonik erkeklik algısı ile bireyler tarafından farkında olmadan içselleştirilir. Birey, toplum içinde kendini her ne kadar rasyonel bir varlık olarak görüp bu süreci kabul etmese de içinde yaşadığı toplumun sosyalizasyon sürecinde bağlı olduğu aile yapısı, ailesinin veya kendisinin ait olduğu toplumsal çevresi, statüsü, sosyo-kültürel seviyesi, dini, etnik kökeni ve benzer değişkenler ile farkında olmadan içselleştirdiği rolleri oynar. Toplumsal cinsiyet rollerinin oluşumunda etkili olduğunu varsaydığımız bu değişkenler, örneklem grubunu etkilemektedir. Bu rollerle oluşan algılar, örneklem grubu olan üniversite öğrencilerinin gelecek beklentisine yön verip düşüncelerini şekillendirmekte ve ayrıca öğrenim gördükleri bilim dallarında bu beklentilerin farklılaşmasında önemli bir husus teşkil edebilmektedir. Araştırma için Ankara’da yaşayan erkek öğrencilerden Edebiyat, Mühendislik ve Güzel Sanatlar fakültelerinin seçilme nedeni, bireylerin kültürel algıları ile toplumsal cinsiyet rollerinin pratiklenmesinde fakülteler arasında bir farklılaşma yaşanıp yaşanmadığının merak edilmesidir. Bu bağlamda, farklı fakültelerdeki erkek öğrencilerin ataerkilliğe bakışı ve üstlerinde hissettikleri hegemonik erkekliğin baskısı araştırmanın konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, Ankara’da yaşayan erkek öğrencilerin ataerkilliğe, ataerkil sistemin ürettiği toplumsal cinsiyet rollerine bakış açısını ortaya koymaktır. Aynı zamanda bu cinsiyet rollerinin yarattığı hegemonik erkekliğin nasıl algılandığı incelenirken, kişilerin bunları yeniden üretmesinin ardında yatan toplumsal dinamikler araştırılacaktır.
