Abstract

A COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVE TO IRAN POLITICS: RAFSANCHANI AND KHATEMI PERIOD (1989-2005)

Iran has experienced very volatile periods in its social and political life since its founding. However, the revolution in 1979 and the subsequent consolidation of Islamic management led to the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The reform process that started some time after the revolution led to the emergence of new discussions in the Islamic Republic of Iran. In this context, in the first part of the study; The events that led to the rise of Rafsanjani, who was the right-hand man of Khomeini, the founding actor of the revolution, and one of the main actors of the system established after his death, and was called the commander of reconstruction, and his reactions to it will be analyzed from an analytical perspective. Then, his attempt to solve the great expectations during his period of power on the basis of economic liberalism and the problems he encountered in this process will be discussed with his successes and failures in terms of dependent and independent variables. In the second part, the Khatami period, which was one of the main actors of Khomeini's cultural revolution but later focused on political and cultural liberalism rather than economic liberalism, by combining both religious and liberal elements on the basis of reform movements, will be discussed. In the conclusion section, a comparison will be made specifically for both leaders by trying to question the failure of the reform movement to succeed
