Türk Eğitim Tarihinde Özgün Bir Model: Köy Enstitüleri ve Karma Eğitim

In the world where the patriarchal order is dominant, women have been away from the field of education for many years, as in all other fields. Village institutes, which give special importance to the education of girls, are important in terms of providing free and boarding co-education. This study was carried out with the aim of examining the co-educational debates from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic and the co-education in the village institutes. In the research, books, articles and theses about village institutes were examined. These data were revealed using the document analysis method. According to the findings obtained as a result of the research, the debates on women's education and co-education, It was seen that it reached large masses with the second Constitutional Monarchy, however, coeducation was limited before the Republic. It has been determined that co-education has been started throughout the country with the Republic and these studies have accelerated with the village institutes. In addition, it can be said that many female students have the opportunity to study thanks to the village institutes, which are considered a majör breakthrough for girls in villages.
