The Dede Korkut Book is like an unlimited world of resources that contains the traces of the life philosophy and belief systems of the Oghuz people. While the traces of the belief system that changed with the adoption of Islam in tribes gradually settled in the social consciousness, the remnants of the old belief were not completely postponed. At this point, it is understood that cultural mobility has not changed and transformed very quickly. The mentioned tribes do not only cover the period in which they were formed, but rather a period of hundreds of years due to their place in the common memory for centuries through oral tradition. Elements of the social structure are based on the roots of ancient remains in the Dede Korkut Book. At this point, many cultural factors are the gates of a journey to the cultural world of the Oghuzs. Words are both keys and transmitters of these gates. The word crow, which gained a negative identity especially after Islam in Turkish folk imagination, is a commonly used word in Turkish culture. In the Book of Dede Korkut, which is one of the oldest sources of history, it is clear that the word, which continues to exist as both “crow animal” and “curse”, has not only a morphological but also a semantic connection. This study aims to reveal the semantic and etymological connection of these two words, one of which is a noun and the other a verb.
